Logs, AuthWare

I’m feeling very lazy these days — I haven’t touched AuthWare in quite a while because I’ve been trying to do my research on writing a plugin system. The consensus seems to be that it’s highly complex, so for now I’ll forget about plugins.

1 & 1 is driving me crazy. I don’t like the way the logs for my domain are being generated. “/” refers to azuka.zatechcorp.com/, books.zatechcorp.com/, zatechcorp.com/ etc in my log files so it’s pretty hard to analyze my stats. I feel like getting their support staff and breaking their heads, because I’m very angry at the annoying customer support.

I’ve always shunned .htaccess files for doing anything but this time, I tried setting the CustomLogs directive in the folder housing th emain domain. It threw a 500 internal server error and I’m sorely aggrieved. I’m sending an e-mail to them now — let’s hear what they say .

Looking for help…

It would be very wrong of me to presume my blog is being widely read — forget the Google ranking — but I’m trying to get some Nigerians who frequent my blog to assist me with my book.

I made a post on Nairaland but so far no one has come to the rescue. I’ll sit with my fingers crossed for a while before I jump into the plot and stomp it to bits with whatever [weird] things come to mind.

Oh, the woes of an author.

Linux — Why?

I jumped on the open source bandwagon because of the freedom it offers, but as my blog attests, only three distros have been able to work on my system — Fedora Core 5, MEPIS and Knoppix. Mandriva detected the wrong screen resolution for a while.

I’ve come to realize that my system is both 64-bit [which requires a fair amount of tweaking] and comes with lots of useless hardware — XWindows doesn’t work because I’m too much of a newbie to configure it.

I’ve got a pile of Linux CDs as well as some DVDs — you’d think I’m a Linux hacker, but I don’t really understand much beyond ls, mount, mkdir, and cd [which is the same on Windows].

Hopefully, I should be able to save some money and get a different PC — I’m too scared of Vista as it is. Vista is bulky and, forget the breath-taking effects and annoying prompts, I don’t like the memory hog.

International Weblogger’s Day

I’ve been up all night creating a new theme for Gbenga. He’s been on my neck for a while and I don’t like disappointing people. I’m going to ask him for a ‘small’ fee, however — that’s how life goes.

Blogging is very interesting and I’m proud to be networking with lots of bloggers from around the world today. Although I’m relatively new on the blogging arena, I’ve discovered how addicting it can be, as well as how refreshing it is to let out one’s thoughts and express oneself through writing.

I’ve ‘met’ people from all over the world through blogging and while I do not have much traffic, I do appreciate the little I get. Kudos to Rio for coming up with the International Weblogger’s Day concept.

I can’t wait for next year! Unfortunately, I won’t be able to join the forum because I’ve got loads of work on my hands, but you can join.

The Blue Lotus

TinTin: the great boy reporter “Lao Tzu said: ‘You, must find the way!’ I’ve found it. You must find it too… So I’m going to cut off your head. Then you’ll know the truth!” These are the words of Didi, the son of Wang Chen-yee, Tintin’s greatest helper [apart from Snowy] in The Blue Lotus.

I first read most of The Blue Lotus when I was in secondary school, and I was intrigued. I never got to lay my hands on any Tintin book again. Today, someone obviously visited my Amazon wishlist and sent me the The Adventures of Tintin, Volume 1.

Like before, I was enthralled and completely loved the book. Georges Remi aka Hergé is simply fabulous. Mitsuhiro, perhaps has the funniest exclamations — “Flaming Fujiyama!’ and ‘Seventy suffering samurais!’ are his very best.

Hergé also seems to be able to poke fun at every one — for example, the ‘Chinese’ name Chang Chong-chen. Kudos to him.

By the way, thanks to the unnamed person who sent me the gift.
